More Adventures
I have decided to unpack and organize my polymer clay and its equipment this morning. Everything is out and I have lost the energy to actually organize it. One problem is that there is really isn’t a lot of room in my studio so I came up with the idea to use the space underneath the sink in the adjoining bathroom. It’s just too overwhelming, I think I will have another cup of coffee and update my blog.
Gerhard and I went on two weekend trips recently, one to
Bangkok and one to
Hong Kong.
In Bangkok, we were able to use the hotel stay I won at the AWA luncheon in October. Unfortunately, the airline tickets expired before we could use them. They were very restrictive, so not such a good prize after all. Plus, we had to pay S $200 in taxes to use the ‘free tickets’. I
am still waiting for my refund from Thai Airways…
We visited the Wat Pho, the largest and oldest temple in Bangkok. It is the home of the reclining Buddha, also the largest. It was amazing. We bopped around town using the Sky Train or tuk-tuk’s. They are like little triangular, go-kart bikes and make quite a bit of noise (tuk, tuk…) They are fast because they can weave in and out of traffic. The downside is that they aren’t very safe and you are subjected to the exhaust fumes.
We also took a boat trip through the side canals of the Chao Praya River. It was interesting to see how the Thais live off the water. A woman selling souvenir items from a rowboat came up to us and we bought a few things, including a Singha beer for our boatsman (her idea LOL).
Over Easter weekend, we went up to Hong Kong. We had some great plans, like going on a harbor cruise and going up to The Peak. The weather was so dreary that we didn’t even bother since there wouldn’t be much of a view. We took a public bus to Stanley Market and went ‘over the top’ versus through the tunnel. The bus driver seemed to be on drugs because we were whipping around the curves going up and down the mountain. We on the top deck of a double decker bus, so it was swaying and when you looked out, you were looking down a cliff into the ocean. Nerve wracking. Gerhard just laughed at me.
Our next trip is in May when we will return to Bali to celebrate my birthday. This time we will stay in Ubud, a beautiful, artsy town in the mountains.
